Present Status/Major activities completed during April 2023:
KAPP Unit-3: This is the first unit of indigenous 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (Kakrapar Atomic Power Project Unit-3) being set up at Kakrapar, Gujarat, with state –of-the-art technology and incorporating enhanced safety features. This unit was successfully synchronized with Grid for the first time on 10.01.2021. After carrying out required modifications/ improvements based on commissioning feedback, permission from AERB has been received and the unit was synchronized with grid on 20.07.2022. The unit has generated about 1873 Million Units (MUs) up to April 30, 2023. Currently unit is operating at about 80% Full Power. This is being followed by balance commissioning activities and further power raise with progressive regulatory clearances.
KAPP Unit-4: A major milestone “Hydro test of Primary Heat Transport (PHT) system” has been completed. Further improvements based on the feedbacks from KAPP-3 commissioning challenges are being incorporated. Additional Chilled water package piping work is completed. Hook-up of feed water with all Steam Generator (SG) is completed. Main Steam hook up with governor valve and extraction hook up with High Pressure (HP) turbine is completed. Mass & Alkali flushing of secondary side piping is completed. Preparations are in progress for Reactor Building Proof Test. This will be followed by major critical milestones i.e. Hot Conditioning, Fuel loading, approach to First Criticality, First Synchronisation with the grid and finally Commencement of Commercial Operation, all with progressive clearances from AERB. Physical progress of the unit as on end April 2023 is 94.38%.

KAPP Unit-3: This is the first unit of indigenous 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (Kakrapar Atomic Power Project Unit-3) being set up at Kakrapar, Gujarat, with state ?of-the-art technology and incorporating enhanced safety features. This unit was successfully synchronized with Grid for the first time on 10.01.2021. After carrying out required modifications/ improvements based on commissioning feedback, permission from AERB has been received and the unit was synchronized with grid on 20.07.2022. The unit has generated about 1531 Million Units (MUs) up to March 31, 2023. Currently unit is operating at about 60% Full Power. This is being followed by balance commissioning activities and further power raise with progressive regulatory clearances.
KAPP Unit-4: A major milestone ?Hydro test of Primary Heat Transport (PHT) system? has been completed. Further improvements based on the feedbacks from KAPP-3 commissioning challenges are being incorporated. Installation of Feeder Header Insulation Cabinet (FHIC) panels in both Fuelling Machine (FM) vault is completed. Open loop flushing of Auxiliary Cooling Water (ACW) system and Mass & Alkali chemical flushing of pre-boiler system, feed water line, condensate extraction line and main steam line are completed Preparations are in progress for Reactor Building Proof Test. This will be followed by major critical milestones i.e. Hot Conditioning, Fuel loading, approach to First Criticality, First Synchronisation with the grid and finally Commencement of Commercial Operation, all with progressive clearances from AERB. Physical progress of the unit as on end March 2023 is 94.35%.
